One of the oldest symbols of the Jewish faith is the menorah‚ a seven-branched candelabrum used in the Temple. When the Second Temple was destroyed‚ Titus took the Menorah and other artifacts and displayed them on his return to Rome. The famous relief of the Arch of Titus shows the looted Menorah.
Today The menorah is also the emblem of the State of Israel.
A Menorah‚ which stands in the area in front of the Knesset gates‚ was designed by the Benno Elkan‚ and donated to the Knesset by the members of the British Parliament. The subjects depicted on it are drawn from the Jewish tradition
Giving items that have the seven branches menorah depicted on them is a great way to remind us of our history. They make lovely gifts for bat and Bar Mitzvah‚ and fulfill decorative purposes. Please see also the nine branched‚ Chanukah Menorahs that we carry when you choose Chanukah as subject.
